COURSE DESCRIPTION

Modsoft software is a personal computer application program that allows the user to program, monitor, troubleshoot, and document Modicon programmable controller systems. In order to effectively use the Modsoft software (or any other application package), one must understand basic concepts as they apply to the personal computers.

This course provides the personal computer fundamentals necessary to understand the Modsoft software as it relates to programming, documenting, and troubleshooting your Modicon controllers.

COURSE OBJECTIVES
•	Understand the major functional components of the personal computer (PC) and how the components work together to form a system for programming and communicating.
•	Learn about disk drives and precautions to use with serial and parallel communications devices such as printers, modems, Modbus Plus and serial links to the programmable controller.
•	Understand the DOS operating system and its relationship to programming languages and applications programs.
•	Understand the Modsoft file structure and commands for copying, comparing, and editing, and ladder-logic both online and offline.
•	Discover menu and file management programs that make your work easier.
•	Install Modsoft software on a computer and configure it to communicate with your Modicon programmable controllers.
•	Load existing control programs to and from your Modicon controller and other personal computers.
•	Edit your programs using search, search and replace, and cut and paste commands.
•	Use the built-in Modsoft operations and Modicon programming Help screens.
•	Document programs by attaching mnemonic descriptors, wire tag numbers and locations, long comments, and maintenance notes to your Modicon program.
•	Attach directly to the programmable controller to monitor and/or perform on-line programming, documentation, and troubleshooting.
•	Learn to use Modsoft's system diagnostic features and quick keys.
