H.Oda WCPUID Review

April 08, 2002

Hello all,

During the process of creating the SSE Enabling web page I decided that a full review of the capabilities of the WCPUID program was warranted. First though let me give credit where credit is due.

WCPUID is a CPU ID and Chipset interrogating program developed by H. Oda. H. Oda's web site is found at http://www.h-oda.com. The WCPUID utility is available from H.Oda's Download page. The current version of WCPUID is version 3.0f.

Make sure that you have the latest version, version 3.0f, of WCPUID. Earlier versions would "blue screen" my Sony Vaio FX210 laptop, running Win2K. Other, users have reported the same problem with the FX210 and FX215 running WinXP. Also keep in mind all of these screen shots are from my Sony Vaio FX210 with a 900Mhz "Morgan" Mobile Duron processor. If you have a different processor your data will be very different.

OK here we go. After downloading WCPUID and extracting the files (WCPUID is packaged in a self extracting ZIP format) to a directory, you are ready to run the program. There is no install routine for WCPUID. To start WCPUID open the directory that you extracted the utility too and double click the WCPUID.EXE file.  The program opens with the CPU Status window.

As you can see there is an incredible wealth of information presented here about the CPU used in your system. This data is only the tip of the iceberg though. Notice all of the icons in the toolbar? Under each one of those icons is even more detailed information. Each icon has a tool tip that shows up when you hover the mouse over them. Furthermore, the View menu has menu options that duplicate the toolbar icons.

I am going to concentrate on the icons that expose more detailed information . Each window also has two (2) additional icons that are quite useful

-- Shows the Standard Feature Flags Window.

-- Shows the Extended Feature Flags Window
